An epic saga of love, lust, and loss, Florida Grand Opera’s Lucia di Lammermoor infuses passion and drama into a classic love story. Centered around the conflicting romances of Lucia (played by Anna Christy) and her two suitors Edgardo and Enrico (played by Joshua Guerrero and Trevor Scheunemann respectively), the opera chronicles the unfortunate circumstances of love in 18th century Scotland.

The minimalist approach to the set and costumes allowed the voices of Christy, Guerrero, and Scheunemann to command the stage. Lucia, a maiden plagued by her impending marriage, metamorphoses from a giddy, young lover to an imprisoned fiancee. Through moments of complete vocal clarity and angst, Christy conveys the devastating dynamics of love and marriage in an elegant, distraught manner. The almost absurd, Shakespearean-like drama is grounded in Christy’s fiercely heartbreaking tone and portrayal. The smooth italian lyrics seamlessly balances the characters’ world wind of emotions and beautifully complements the story. Lucia di Lammermoor marks the 2017-2018 season openning of Florida Grand Opera’s historic seventy-seventh year. In honor of this great accomplishment, Florida Grand Opera is offering free Opera Talk Backs to all patrons after each performance, which includes a Q&A session with the directors and cast members.  Don’t miss this truly innovative incarnation of Lucia di Lammermoor, playing at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts’ Au Rene theatre until December 2nd, 2017.
